Our mission is to provide United States veterans with dental care, which is not provided through the Office of Veteran Affairs. To provide amenities for United States veterans otherwise not provided for or prioritized by the V.A. To have the necessary infrastructure to provide needed care to United States Veterans. We at New Smiles For Veterans strive to become the leading non profit organization at providing necessary and much needed care for many overlooked Veterans living in the United States. Being able to help Veterans have a healthier life by providing the care that they require, primarily being dental care, which they do not receive from the Office of Veteran Affairs.
New Smiles For Veterans was founded in 2016 by father and son Dennis and Daniel Matthews. They started New Smiles For Veterans as a Non Profit Organization, with the goal of providing dental care, which is not currently provided by The Department of Veteran Affairs, at no cost to United States Veterans. Dennis being a Veteran himself and having gone to Vietnam in 1966-1967 has lived with the effects that poor dental care can cause and was inspired to create a system to take care of our Veterans dental care.
VA Dental Care
According to the Veterans Handbook, Veterans may receive reduced cost dental care through organizations, MetLife and Delta Dental. The problem for most Veterans being that it is only reduced cost and only free under certain applicable conditions including.
- within 180 days of discharge from service,
- have dental condition clinically determined by the VA to be associated with and aggravating a current medical condition,
- if you are currently a participant of 38 USC Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation Program, and if you are currently having an operation or inpatient care which requires dental care due to it complicating the process.
The Veterans Handbook
THE VETERANS HANDBOOK STATES
“Good oral health is more than just a nice smile or ability to chew favorite foods—it impacts a person’s overall health. VA provides dental care to Veterans who meet certain eligibility standards, but would like all Veterans and beneficiaries to have access to quality dental care. VA offers all Veterans who are enrolled in the VA health care program and beneficiaries of VA’s Civilian Health and Medical Program (CHAMP-VA) the opportunity to purchase dental insurance at a reduced cost through Delta Dental and MetLife. Multiple options allow participants to select a plan that provides benefits and premiums that meet their dental needs and budget. Each enrollee will pay a fixed monthly premium for coverage and any copayments required by his or her plan. Individuals interested in participating in this pilot program may review plan details and complete an application online through either the websites of Delta Dental (www.deltadentalvadip.org) or MetLife (www.metlife.com/vadip). Coverage is available throughout the United States and its territories.”
